DJ John Simmons
John Simmons is a DJ with a passion for good music and flair for the dramatic. Having DJed at hundreds of nightclubs, lounges, and events throughout Chicago and the world, John is a seasoned veteran with an intense love for his craft.

With a DJ palette that ranges from deep house to neo soul and from "old school" classics to sensible hip-hop, John can rock just about any crowd for whom he plays. His diverse sound has earned him a reputation as being one of Chicago's most well-rounded, skilled, and forward-thinking DJs.

Never afraid to try a new scene, John has played at many of Chicago's diverse nightclubs and lounges. Some of the more recognizable names include Crobar, Vision, Rednofive, Slick's, Smartbar, Sonotheque, Betty's Blue Star, Zentra, Subterranean, Empty Bottle, The Abbey, Darkroom, Spy Bar, Minx, and Funky Buddha Lounge. He has proven also to be a very reliable DJ, having held down weekly residencies at Square One Cafe, D'Vine, Betty's Blue Star, Coobah, Moonshine, Holiday Club, Spot 6, Union Park Lounge, and Streetside Cafe. His current Tuesday night residency at Coobah, a Latin restaurant on Chicago's north side, has lasted more than two years!

Not content to just play in the city in which he was born and raised, John has showcased his DJ talent across the United States and even overseas. The list of places outside of Chicago John has played is extensive, and includes the cities of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Detroit, Michigan, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nashville, Tennessee, San Francisco, California, Miami, Florida, Berlin, Germany, Amsterdam, Netherlands and even Cairo, Egypt. From nightclubs to warehouse parties to huge outdoor festivals, John has just about done it all, and has made the most out of each and every opportunity.

John has also had the opportunity to play with some of Chicago's and the world's best DJs and performers, sharing the stage with DJs/artists such as Derrick May, Deep Dish, Jesse De la Pena, Derrick Carter, Talib Kweli, Cajmere/Green Velvet, Frankie Knuckles, Felix da Housecat, Jamalski, DJ Funk, Del the Funky Homosapien, Moodymann, DJ Heather, Lego, Juan Atkins, Miss Kittin, Mark Grant, Diz, Old Dirty Bastard, and Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, to name a few.

The son of legendary DJ "Big" Bob Simmons, one of Chicago's original DJ pioneers, John was destined to make his mark on his hometown. With turntables in the basement as a teenager, John took it upon himself to learn how to spin and quickly found himself spinning "house" music and hip-hop at school dances and house parties. Upon graduating high school, John found himself immersed in Chicago's exploding rave scene and began his house/techno music assault on Chicago's underground warehouses and loft parties. This exposure is what has allowed him to be consistently recognized and booked to spin by promoters locally, nationally, and internationally.

With the arrival of his 21st birthday and the death of the Chicago rave scene in 1999, John found himself at the door of Chicago's club scene. In just a few short years John has not only managed to spin at some of Chicago's best music venues but has also created a new identity for himself as a DJ, one with diversity, integrity, and a lot of heart!

This year John plans to focus more on music production and putting out mix CDs on a regular basis. Check out John's newest DJ mixes, "Love Shot" and "Deep Blue," available online at www.djjohnsimmons.com.
